I am investigationg the etymology of the epithet sabdariffa. Some indices point to a Turkish origin. I was unable to find the word in the Turkish and English Lexicon of redhouse, which describes Ottoman Turk. The word is known in botanical litterature at least since 1576, as you can see in my article on Pl@ntUse. Can anyone help me (and document it on Wikipedia) ? Hi @Michel Chauvet, i am not sure if i m late to answer your question (i hope not). In Turkish it is usually known as Hibisküs or Hibiskus, so rarely its being called Bamya çiçeği or Amber Çiçeği. Fair notice: Most of the times same genus can be called with different names or same name can be used for different genus, since generally people dont know the slight differences between the genus or species.
